Have you ever petted a chicken? They have really soft feathers. Some chickens will let you hold them. Other chickens are not used to humans touching them, so they will scratch or peck at us.
Mother chickens, [called hens], are good mothers. They take good care of their babies, [called biddies]. If it is raining, they will open their wings for the babies to come to gather under her wings. If it is windy or dangerous she will do the same. If a preditor is near, she will squawk for them to come to her quickly. She will protect them with her life.
Did you know that Jesus, our Savior, feels the same way about us? He loves his children very much. He calls out to us to come be near him. He protects us in times of danger, and he is always ready to defend us.
In Matthew 23:37, Jesus stood on a hill overlooking Jerusalem. He loved the people there very much. He wanted to hold them close to himself and protect them, heal them, and save them. Many people rejected him and would not believe him. In this Scripture, he calls to them: “Matthew 23:37 NLT “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me. “
Today, Jesus is still calling out to people. His arms are open and he is willing for anyone who wants to come to him. If you need that kind of love and acceptance, why not accept Him today as your Savior.
Let’s pray:
Dear God, I need to be rescued. My life is in a mess. I am scared a lot. I want you to come and save me and rescue me from all those things in my life that are bad. I ask Jesus to come into my life and save me. I want to be Your child. I receive You, Jesus as my savior and lord. Amen.
